A healthy breakfast choice offering an abundance of nutritional value, oatmeal is a staple found in a lot of people’s homes. Can dogs eat oatmeal, though? Yes! but there are things that you should keep in mind before feeding this snack to your pups.

Is Oatmeal Good for Dogs?

Oatmeal is high in fibre and contains a lot of nutrients, minerals, and antioxidants. “Served in moderate amounts, oatmeal can benefit a dog in a number of ways. It is a fantastic alternative carbohydrate for dogs that may be sensitive to grains or wheat.

” Oatmeal contains vitamin B, which helps keep a healthy coat, and linoleic acid, which is a type of omega-6 fatty acid that helps keep a dog’s skin healthy and strong.

It is also a great source of soluble fibre that can regulate blood glucose levels and help dogs with irregular bowel movements.

If you’re planning to share your oatmeal, make sure it’s cooked and not sprinkled raw over food; serving it raw will make it harder for your puppies to digest. It should also be plain; while you may enjoy additives such as salt, butter, chocolate, raisins, or grapes, these ingredients may be highly detrimental to the health of a dog.

Never feed your dog with flavoured oatmeal (e.g., cinnamon, blueberry, etc.), because it often contains more sugar and may even contain artificial sweeteners, like xylitol, which is poisonous to dogs. Once the oatmeal is cooked, serve it at room temperature — giving your dog food that is too hot can cause burn his mouth.
