5. Arrange for regular health check-ups
Be a bit more proactive with the visit to the vet. While your pet might seem to be very happy and comfortable, there might be problems underneath that might pose a serious problem later.
Ensure that he suffers from no such ailments and catch any problems right in its early stage. Also, conduct dental check-ups periodically to assure that their gums and teeth are in good condition.
6. Accommodate their needs
For a Shih Tzu, old age is not really friendly. So, accommodate these little pets in any way possible. If they have difficulty climbing the stairs, then try to create a ramp or simply leave the food and water down along with their bed. If they have arthritis, then buy a bed that is good for them.
7. Keep the parasites in check
As they grow old, Shih Tzu’s immune system becomes weaker and they become more susceptible to ticks and fleas, and worms, etc. Moreover, the long hair of your pet makes it harder for you to spot them. Thus, it is essential that you check for such parasites continuously and stay on top of the matter. You can even talk to the vet and look for preventive measures.
8. Keep them occupied
While sleep is essential for a senior dog, however, it is as important to keep a senior Shih Tzu occupied. Since they have mobility issues, it is essential that you keep them occupied with toys.
Go on and shower all your love on them and make every day precious!
