The Shih Tzu, like almost all dogs, is best suited to homes that can provide daily attention and interaction. While they may not need a lot of intense exercises, they do not do well in homes that are empty for 8 to 10 hours (or more) a day.
If you’re looking for a running mate or a hiking dog, the Shih Tzu might not be the best fit for you. Otherwise, for a reason, these little dogs are popular with families around the world.
A lapdog through and through, the Shih Tzu is generally happy with a few short potty breaks and some playtime. This dog would prefer to have multiple short outings per day than a long workout. Regular, gentle exercise will keep these dogs look good and pleased in their teens.
