Shih Tzu puppies will consume their mother’s milk until they are between six and eight weeks old. This means that they still rely on their mother’s milk until there is a short supply of milk. It may not make sense to start the weaning process because the mother can wean the puppies from the milk on her own.
Puppies Start to Explore
Puppies around three to four weeks of age will become more aware of their environment and begin to explore. This may be a good time to gradually present some solid food to Shih Tzu puppies. Use this exploration time to begin the weaning process.
